Tompa edged out her fellow swimmer Emese Kovács to claim the 100 m butterfly title by eight hundredths of a second (0.08) at the 2007 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, with a time of 1:00.22. Tompa qualified for women's 100 m freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by clearing a FINA B-standard entry time of 56.81 from the European Junior Championships in Antwerp. She challenged seven other swimmers on the second heat, including 15-year-old Quah Ting Wen of Singapore and two-time Olympian Irina Shlemova of Uzbekistan. She finished behind Thailand's Natthanan Junkrajang in third place by a hundredth (0.01) of a second, posting her personal best of 56.57 seconds. Tompa failed to advance into the semifinals, as she placed fortieth overall in the preliminary heats.
